Awful customer service. The pad thai came with shrimp, which I am allergic to, so I couldn't eat it. We waited about twice the amount of time that was estimated, and upon the delivery man's tardy arrival, he nickel and dimed us out of 50 cents. That being said, the food was tasty.

Ordered on seemless, waited hour and a half for food. Delivery guy came like he's doing us a favor with a nasty attitude, but alas our food was there open it up I dig in the food is bland but whatever, my wife had the order all wrong. Only reason it gets 2 stars the manager tried to make amends and she seemed sincere when I called. Off to buy my wife a roll from the corner store.

Waited more than an hour and a half for the delivery. When called the restaurant, they insisted that it's "on its way".

Terrible costumer service. After receiving email confirmation, I waited for 1.5hours for the food to come. When I called the restaurant, they didnt even offer to give me a refund. So difficult communicating with receptionist and could not speak to a manager. Would not order from this place again.

This place was a god send. Only decent Chinese food up here. Haven't tried the Japanese and other cuisines they offer though, Reliable. Once in a while a long wait. Food consistently good.
Posted 2 months ago by Jason B.
Nasty. Vegetable dumplings are made with green undercooked dough. The seaweed salad was slimy and inedible, my husband lucked out and had a decent pad thai. For a hour wait not worth ordering from them ever again.

Well... so I wanted to try something new and ordered some food from this place. I ordered seafood udon, avocado salad, and fried dumplings.
The fried dumplings were actually quite good, and I felt quite happy (hence the 2-star rating). Then I got to the Udon. The plastic container had three layers: noodles at the bottom, mostly vegetables in the middle, and seafood on top. I guess, this way you get to the fun part faster; or, perhaps, it is just easier for them. The seafood was of many different kinds and tasted like... nothing. Like rice, perhaps. Definitely not nutritious, though edible. I made my way through a third of the seafood, but couldn't stand the smell coming from it any longer, so I threw the whole thing out. Perhaps the seafood was fine when it was fresh, not sure.
Then I've got to the avocado salad. Not sure why they call it "avocado salad", as it is essentially a huge bowl of lettuce with some slices of avocado, tomato, and cucumber. The tomatoes and cucumbers taste about the same as the above mentioned seafood; they definitely do not taste fresh either. I am still unsure if I will proceed with eating it. However, the amount of lettuce included is quite impressive!
Overall, if you really want to try them, at least include the fried dumplings, so you will have something to eat. They are very good ;-)

Best Chinese in wash heights

Delicious. Always hits the spot. I go for the classics like General Tso's Chicken, Roast Pork Fried Rice, Wonton Soup, Egg Rolls... and only once, was the General Tso's not up to par. The best wonton soup around and freaking great egg rolls. I've had their sushi too, and it's pretty good. I don't go near any imitation crab, but everything else tastes pretty fresh - sometimes the avocado can be spotty. But overall, quality. And they usually deliver so quickly!!

On one hand, I love Empire for making me gluten free Chinese food and taking great care to attend to my allergy. That's why I keep going back. But sometimes the food is really, really not good. Oily, bland, and often weirdly sour. Could be that it's cause they have to make alterations to accommodate my allergy, sure. But the food is often just shockingly bad. Sometimes Empire comes through and is delicious -- I ordered shrimp chow fun with white sauce (not really on the menu but they'll do it) and it was INCREDIBLE. But that's like, one time out of 10 or so funky fried rices and weird stir-fries. Yet I'll still order from there, because it's the only place in my neighborhood with GF Chinese food...

nothing special, just normal run of the mill Chinese food.

Pretty gross and I am not picky. The orange flavored chicken tasted more like dog food, I couldn't even eat it. It didn't taste like orange and was not spicy like it advertised, even when I requested extra spicy. The egg roll was almost completely dough and not much filling.
White rice was great, though...

Good food, but they take about an hour (if you get lucky) to deliver.

Quick delivery, but the food is not good. Tasted like it was left out for too long. Things were overly greasy or just bland. I used to like this place but it keeps going further and further downhill. That was my last order with them. Food should taste good, this did not.
Posted 4 months ago by Michelle S.
Amazed by how bland the food is. Egg drop soup was like water, General Tso's over priced. I don't recommend.
Posted 4 months ago by Diana G.
The food was watery, and my least favorite Chinese I've had in the city.
Posted 4 months ago by Andrea K.
Food was good for the price. I don't live that far, but delivery took slightly over one hour. Still, I was happy with the food. Just something to bear in mind when ordering.

The best "authentic" Chinese food in the area. I fluctuate between being really happy with this place (4.5 stars) and being satisfied (3 stars) - it really depends on the day, but you will always wind up with something tasty. I commend their use and variety of vegetables in all of their dishes as well as their actual variety of sauces (unlike the other Chinese places in the neighborhood that drown everything in 1 of their 3 house sauces).

I've ordered several times, delivery had been consistently fast (25-30 mins tops)--order correct and delicious, prices are very reasonable. The menu is also pretty extensive, its nice to have all the extra choices on Seamless.

Food is okay, but overpriced, and I always feel like crap an hour after I eat it...

I was nervous ordering from here based on very hostile reviews, but I couldn't find a single Chinese place that delivered to me that had good reviews so I gave it a try. And honestly? I don't get the complaints.
Pupu: Pupu platters are uniformly disgusting, but I always get them the first time I order from a new restaurant because I'm a sucker and think it's a good way to gauge general quality. This was hand's down one of the least disgusting ones I've had. The beef stick was kind of "preserved" and vinegary- not great, but not much different from others I've had. The ribs were BIG- and not bad. Same goes for the chicken wings. And the fried wontons ACTUALLY HAD MEAT IN THEM. I had forgotten they were supposed to! The revelation was the shrimp toast, which is always the most disgusting part of the platter. Rather than a square, greasy thing with a shrimp tail sticking out, it was a triangular, greasy thing with no tail and other ingredients, like scallions. I'll never love shrimp toast, but this actually was made rather than extruded. A solid B.
Roast duck appetizer: Not bad. Yes, it is oily. Duck always is. It could have been crisper. But it is a solid deal and has more meat than fat. B+
Hot and sour soup: The most disappointing item. After the long delivery time (see below) I didn't expect hot, but I did expect spicy and sour. It had no "bite" at all, and there was literally no sourness. It wasn't BAD- it just wasn't good. A better name would be "Bland and Salty Soup." C.
Double sauteed sliced pork: Easily comparable to any other cheap Chinese restaurant. Veggies seemed fresh and the sauce was neither too thick nor overly sweet. B+
Delivery time: Well, it's bad. I expected it to be based on the reviews and in fairness the place is about 30 blocks away. But I was told to expect 45 minutes to an hour and it was more like an hour and a half. Plan ahead.
Overall, this isn't great but it doesn't deserve wrath. I'll re-order from them. C+/B-

Will nickel and dime you, and will call you after you order to painstakingly go through every single item ordered. Do NOT order the brown rice for sushi. It's a mess. The rest of the sushi was decent.

Cheap, healthy, fast, supper yummy Chinese food in Washington Heights. Love this place!!!
Posted 6 months ago by Uyen N.
The driver called me from the street and explained that he was double-parked and that I should come outside to get the food that I tipped $4 to have delivered to me.
The chicken in the "Sweet & Sour Chicken" was soggy to the point of wetness and the breading fell right off of most of it.
The "Half Fried Chicken" that I ordered from their specialty menu was VERY VERY dry and mostly inedible.
Also, the "Fried Rice" was bland and full of egg :(

I always order food from them. Decent Chinese food and delivery is quite fast, so nothing to complain there. Except one time I asked for vegetarian wonton instead of the normal meat wonton in my soup - they ignored my request.
Posted 7 months ago by Jessica H.
Ignored some of the bad reviews on this restaurant - shouldn't have. Food took 75 minutes to get here. When I called to ask about it, the woman who answered was pushy and rude. The food itself is prepared differently than it would be at another chinese restaurant, so don't count on your usual being... Well, usual. To top it all off, there were no fortune cookies. What kind of self-respecting Chinese Restaurant doesn't include fortune cookies. Not cheap enough for the low quality service. Will skip this place next time.

Great food, really fast delivery and did I mention the great food? Update from early 2013, food went downhill, still really fast but quality has waned

Worst sushi I've ever had. I ordered a dragon roll, that was really soggy. The spring rolls were soaked in oil and mushy. Never ordering again

I ordered the Pad Thai and I got a lot more than I was expecting--I couldn't finish it! I also got dumplings and there were a lot.
Posted 7 months ago by Walter M.
It took an hour and 10 minutes to deliver my food. The veg steamed dumplings are thick dough, green food dye version. The eggplant dish was an oil saturated disaster. I enjoyed the veg udon soup. It was not worth the hour long wait.

uneven but mostly very good. specialties like rice cakes and crispy duck are two of my favorites. and reasonably priced.

A little bit more expensive that your average Chinese delivery, but the food looks and taste much better. We also like to dine in, as they have quite a few tables, and we like the variety they offer (Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian). It is our favorite dining place in this neighborhood: reasonably priced and always tasty.
Posted 9 months ago by Remi C.
I actually really enjoy their sushi. It's very cheap ("50% off" .... all the time), but it's pretty tasty. They do take their time delivering, but the guy who brings it is always pretty pleasant. The side of rice is also light and fluffy, which I did not expect at all. The only downside to this place is the edamame - it's pretty good for the most part, but there are some that are brown and there's usually a few stray rice noodles in them, but they're alright.

food is average (what else would one expect in this area though, right?) and the delivery is perpetually late and every time that you call to find out where it is----surprisingly it has "already left" (that should be read with a lot of sarcasm)

I'm from the west coast where we had several outstanding vegetarian options in chinese quisine. Of all the places we've tried, the Empire Szechuan Noodle House is the only one that serves anything palatable, and some of their dishes (lo mein, sesame, garlic sauce) dishes are excellent. Delivery does take a while, but they say that up front.
Posted 10 months ago by Forest W.
Shrimp was undercooked. Brocolli was hard as a rock. Worst delivery service.

Enjoyed the diverse veg dishes. Food came in about an hour, hot and decent quality. I'll order from Empire Szechuan Noodle House again.

The egg rolls were excellent, everything else was good.

I wish I could give this place negative stars. The delivery took over an hour. I had to call numerous times. The first time they claimed my food was on its way. The next time they claimed they never even received my order, and in the same sentence said my order was for pick-up, not delivery and that I should know the difference! The woman had the nerve to start an argument with me insisting it was my fault. This was the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. Not worth the hassle. Never ever ever giving them my business again!

Really rude. I ordered using their promotion that you get a free side on orders over $15, and it didn't say before tax. They called me and told me that since my order wasn't over $15 before tax (it was something like $14.75), they weren't giving me my side. I asked if I could pay for extra rice or a drink or something and get the side I ordered and they screamed 'NO!' and hung up on me.

Mediocre food, with the exception of the juicy buns. This place does stay open late, that's probably one of the only redeeming qualities. Rude woman on the phone, delivery takes so long that the food is lukewarm by the time it arrives. Not worth it. I won't be ordering from here again.

I give it a 5 star rating in the context of cheap chinese takeout. Compared to the standard places in this category, the food at empire is *much* better and tastier. I grew up eating authentic chinese food and while no take-out place can compare, empire is significantly better than most. There's less of the disgusting cloyingly sweet goop that goes into the "chinese" food at most places. Not sure how the non-chinese food at empire tastes (eg. sushi) but you really shouldn't be ordering sushi at a cheap chinese restaurant anyways.

Food was over cooked, I didn't get my soda either. Wait time too long.

This is by far the best Chinese delivery I've had, and I've tried just about all places uptown. Their twice-cooked pork was phenomenal, and "extra hot & spicy" actually means hot and spicy to these guys!! Highly recommend!

Cold Sesame Noodles!! Roast Fire duck is also amazing - speedy delivery too. This is my new GOTO Chinese spot for the heights :)

This place is so hit or miss. Sometimes it's amazing chines food (for the heights anyway), and sometimes total crap. Never order delivery from here, the delivery man is rude, the food is cold (i live 2 blocks away), and they frequently forgot multiple items. They also never give you the free stuff (even if you've written it in your online order). I've only ever liked the food when I've done carry out (never eaten in here)- still not always awesome, but at least everything is there

Their customer service is very poor.

On multiple occasions delivery has taken well over half an hour (we live less than half a block away). Last time we ordered, we received half of our order. We called to log a complaint. It took an additional half an hour to receive the rest of our order. Food tends to be good especially the sushi, stick to take out or eat in (NO DELIVERY!)

My First experience was refunded due to order delivered wrong and some items were over cooked.
Miso Soup was sour
Fries were not delivered, Fried rice instead
Second order was less than satisfactory.
Philly Roll had soggy wet rice
Chicken was over fried
Fries tasted like old oil

Decent food. Their meat isn't very good, but portion sizes are great and vegetable/etc. dishes are just fine.
Posted 2 years ago by Fred J.
Not bad. I order here when im to tired to cook. Scallion pankes, sub gum and beef with peking sauce is great. I like their pad thai too, not to peanuty like other places. Generally good food, but still not my only favorite chinese spot in Wash heights. Also you need to remind them about the free items you get when your order is over $10. One lady is quick about it, the others will not give it to you unless you ask.
Posted 2 years ago by Christina D.
Awful. I've tried this a few times in hopes that the terrible food was a fluke. ((The ease of seamless web is just so tempting)) The ingredients are of poor (and often unrecognizable) quality. "Chicken" is chewy and uneatable, egg rolls POUR grease to the point where they are uneatable as well. And to top it all off, I had VERY little of it, and got food poisoning!!! DO NOT EAT HERE! There are MUCH better Chinese places in the heights.

Quick delivery. Nothing special. Average neighborhood Chinese food. Lunch specials are a good deal. Bypass the sushi. And they use too much plastic packaging.
Posted 2 years ago by Doug L.
The food is really mediocre. The chicken is often not hot. The delivery service was very poor. Took almost an hour to get our two entrees. They were not hot. The order did not come with the advertised 'free' items and they delivery man demanded a tip.
Posted 3 years ago by Jesse G.
Order did not come with napkins or plastic flatware. I ordered the pu pu plater. The fried items were OVERCOOKED and inedible. Will not order from this restaurant again.
Posted 3 years ago by joseph s.
I mean, it was okay. The food arrived in 45 minutes. The man was actually quite nice. A little awkward, but pretty nice. The food was nice and hot, and they put in extra duck sauce (my fave) without me asking. No complaints with the food. The only complaint I actually have are the prices. $1.50 for a can of Pepsi, and $1.75 for ONE egg roll? Nonsense.
